Congratulations to Mada Aldeeb from RMIT University for winning the inaugural Sinclair-Nelson Scholarship valued at $10,000. The judges noted:
"The principal work mapped the textures and layers of a refugee village in Syria seen from above: architectural on the one hand but, most importantly, expressive and artistic on the other. The works allow the viewer to have an insight into the pattern of settlement of the place in question and how the human spirit adapts and morphs the so-called urban landscape, in this case one born out of stress and dislocation. So, we found it engaging and masterful with an acute eye for how architectural practice and hand drawing can convey a message while also being a delightful and rich work."
Congratulations also to Sam Wilson from RMIT University for receiving a commendation valued at $1,500.
In its first year, the Sinclair-Nelson Drawing Scholarship celebrates and recognises excellence in hand-drawn architectural drawing and promotes its value to the architectural profession as well as the wider public. The winners were announced at the 2024 Victorian Honours Event at the State Library of Victoria on November 25.
