James Staughton

Starting Point

In reflecting upon the 2B or not 2B moniker these drawings interrogate dualities in both architectural thought and architectural process whilst choosing not 2B from the implied choice in the wordplay, made not with a 2B graphite pencil but instead through a hand painted silkscreen printing process.

Statement of Intent

An exploration the threshold between abstraction and representation of architectural ideas and their application along with the fundamental architectural dualities of black/white, figure/ground, foreground/background, public/private, served/serving, all with the ambition of capturing the essence of an architectural idea.

Elaboration

An investigation into the delicate balance in architecture between the readability of the generative ideas and the curated consequences of these ideas toward strategic, spatial and aesthetic outcomes
